When Should I think of IVF treatment?
A couple needs to be evaluated before deciding the mode of treatment for infertility. There are specific reasons like tubal blockage, low quality eggs,Severe PCOD,Male factors like oligozoospermia etc.for which IVF is required.
Is Infertility only a women’s problem?
No,Infertility is not only a women’s problem.In Fact 40 % of the Infertility is due to male factors,40 % are due to female factors and remaining due to unexplained infertility.
Is it true that in IVF complete bed rest is compulsorily required?
No,After IVF you can do your routine activities except in certain situations.
Is it a fact that in IVF always donor eggs/sperms are used?
No,It is a myth.In IVF Donor eggs/sperms are used only in certain situations where it is absolutely required after taking written and informed consent of the couple.
How many cycles of IVF can be done?
As many as cycle couple can do till they can afford the cost of IVF.
Is IVF painful?
No.Injections given during the process of IVF are painless and egg retrieval process is done under anesthesia hence the overall process of IVF is painless.
Does IVF treatment affect the health of the mother?
No.In IVF we only augment the physiological process of conception so in the majority of patients it does not affect the health of the mother.
When should I opt for PGD/PGS?
In case of advanced maternal age,history of genetic disease in family and previous pregnancy,recurrent pregnancy loss and multiple IVF failure PGS would be helpful.If there is H/O known single gene disorder then PGD would be helpful.
Is IUI different from IVF?
Yes.IUI is guided natural conception where only sperms are injected in Uterus at the time of ovulation whereas In IVF the egg and sperm are fertilised outside the body in the IVF Lab and then embryo is transferred in Uterus.
What is the rate of miscarriage in IVF?
It is the same as natural conception which is approximately 10 to 15%.
Is there any difference between natural pregnancy and IVF pregnancy?
In IVF pregnancy is maintained by external hormones for first 3 month so it required frequent monitoring however there is no difference in management of pregnancy after 3 month in natural and IVF pregnancy.
Is NT scan compulsory?
Yes,it is to be done to rule out early major abnormality in fetus and to screen for markers of chromosomal abnormality.
what is difference between NT scan and 4D anomaly scan?
Nt scan is early scan to rule out major abnormality like absence of cranial vault(anencephaly),abdominal wall defect,major limb abnormality etc.. By 4D scan we can rule out more than 95% abnormality.
Does frequent ultrasound affects baby’s health?
No,ultrasound rays is not affecting baby’s health and development.
